Point View Lodge has a Gold Enviro award.
"We wish to protect the environment by being as eco friendly as possible without compromise to our service or our guests comfort"
Here are a few of the steps we take to reduce damage to the environment: (a booklet of all of our initiatives is available to our guests on arrival)
We recycle glass, plastic, tin and paper; we use environmentally safe cleaning products; we grow as many of our green vegetables as possible and use food waste as compost; we have a planting programme to re introduce more native trees and plants into our small bush area; we use a mulcher to cut up our garden waste and use it around plants to reduce weeding and keep the garden moist during summer.
We reduce the loads of washing we do each day by consulting with guests that are staying more than one night about using bed linen for more than one use; we use load efficient cycles when washing and air dry as much as possible; we have divided the lodge into two areas to maintain different heating zones and harness the heat from the thermal pool to heat radiators downstairs; we use thermostatically and timer controlled gas heaters; the lodge is well insulated being a new building and all drapes are thermally backed to reduce heat loss.
All equipment is turned off when not in use; non essential lighting is sensor controlled; heating or air conditioning is not used when doors and windows are open; we have timers on the heated towel rails and the heated floors are thermostatically and timer controlled; these are turned off during the summer months; we have installed energy and water efficient electrical appliances.
We maximise our use of electronic communications and only print when necessary using a duplex printer; we run fuel efficient, low polluting cars;
